A Charles and Ray Eames Model S2-1970 leg splint. This is an amazing collectors item with amazing historical context. Charles and Ray Eames, known for their molded plywood furniture design, created the Eames leg splint in the early 1940s to support the war effort of WWII. In collaboration with Wendell G Scott, trained medical doctor and a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy Reserves, Eames helped to create a wartime medical device that would help to save lives, and later go on to become a collectors item for decades to come. The splint uses a molded plywood, originally shaped and designed using Charles’ own leg. The splint contains stamped model numbers, and is made of layers of mahogany, birch, and fir plywood. This particular splint is special in that it includes the original, unopened packaging with labeling. This piece is in very good vintage condition. The splint measures approximately 42.5 inches long, 8 inches wide, and 3.75 inches deep.

Photos of the splint in this listing without the packaging are from an old listing; the packaging on this piece has not been opened.
