In “Girafe en train de boire” also known as “Giraffe Drinking” has captured a giraffe drinking at a watering hole, its cheeks puffed as it drinks. The sinews of its long legs are tense, yet the creature exudes delicate grace in every movement. Bugatti first encountered the giraffe at the Antwerp Zoo in Belgium in 1909, accompanied by his artist friend Cecil Howard. Struck by its majesty, Bugatti spent many a day sculpting the animal plein air, allowing him to observe the animal in all its many attitudes.
