Dating from 1905, this exquisite patinated cast iron and copper fireplace was featured in the dining rooms of the renowned Rue Moderne apartment buildings, one of Guimard’s notable commissions. Following his marriage to Adeline Oppenheim in 1909, a member of a prosperous Jewish American banking family, Guimard established a real estate company to fund his architectural ventures. Known as Societe Generale de Constructions Modernes, the company financed multiple construction projects in the 16th arrondissement, including eleven buildings on Rue Moderne. This particular cast iron fireplace served as the master model, boasting immaculate lines and superior casting quality.
